Report On The Escort Interpreting Of7^th China Central Expo

Exhibition industry is called “An Emerging Industry” in modern society, and thereis an increasing demand for exhibition interpreters with the hig hly developedexhibition industry. As a report on the three-day escort interpreting for the majorinvestor from the United States in2012at the7th China Central Expo (Changsha), thisthesis is written on the foundation of practical interpreting experienc e of the Expo, anddescribes the interpreting process, interpreting problems and strategies. The experiencemethods are further used for the study of the difficulties of exhibition interpreting andinterpreter training.The task consists of “preparation”, such as the background preparation andagenda preparation,“work before the exhibition” like airport pick-up and issuesarrangement and “interpreting during the exhibition”. The thesis divides “interpretingduring the exhibition” into three parts according to different interpreting methods.They are whispering simultaneous interpreting, sight interpreting and consecutiveinterpreting. The transcripts of both original speech and author s interpreting arepresented.Typical examples are chosen for interpreting analysis, such as simplification andstrategy for information omission in whispering simultaneous interpreting. Contentreduction is adopted in sight interpreting. The analysis of interpretation technical termsand numbers, and short-time memory in consecutive interpreting are also included inthis chapter.Through the task description and analysis, the author discusses several points inthe conclusion:1. the importance of pre-interpreting preparation, and how to gatprepared enough;2. exhibition interpreting requires a wide range of knowledge invarious fields, and skills like short-time memory and simplification can be adopted bythe interpreter to fulfill the job;3. daily training and suggestions for exhibitioninterpreting. With the rapid development of Exhibition Industry, the exchange of allcountries has become more frequent, and the cultivation of qualified exhibitioninterpreters will contribute a lot to it.
