A Practice Report On Whisper Interpreting For Awards Ceremony Of 2018 China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition

As the international communication expands in depth,exchanges among countries become wider,covering fields such as culture,economy,etc.Simultaneous interpreting also plays an increasingly significant role.Under the circumstances,whisper interpretation,a special branch of simultaneous interpretation,has been widely used in areas like private interviews,small meetings and commercial negotiations.From October 26^thh to 28^th,2018,China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition was held in Guilin,Guangxi.The author provided exhibition service,interview interpretation,and whisper interpretation of the awards ceremony for Mr.Bounlap,the deputy director of the Ministry of Tourism of Laos.This article is based on the author's practice of whisper interpretation.By analyzing the author's shortcomings and gains in advance preparation,interpretation performance,mastering of interpreting skills and psychological quality,the author summarized the challenges,problems,and strategies in simultaneous interpretation.In this report,four key challenges in the interpretation process are summarized.If mishandled,the quality of interpretation would be lowered.Besides,the author also analyzed the main difficulties in the interpretation task:accuracy,fluency and integrity.These three standards would directly influence the judgment from the clients.Finally,the author also discussed the basic interpreting strategies for improving the quality:by appropriate omission and anticipation,interpreting can be more flexible,thus the quality of interpretation would get improved.Examples are used to analyze the above three key points.Through reflecting and summarizing the lessons in this practice,the author hopes to give references to other interpreters.
