Nowadays, with the fast development of the informationization andglobalization, the press conference is widely used in the communication betweenthe countries and governments as one of the most important ways of transferringthe information. In China, the annual Premier’s press conference, which is held byMinistry of Foreign Affairs during the NPC and CPPCC, attracts large of domesticand international media. It is considered as a platform for our government toreport the work to the public and show the style and features to the foreigncountries. At the same time, the Premier’s press conference helps to open a newfield of the interpretation research. During the conference, the interpreter removesthe language barrier between the speaker and the audiences effectively andensures the smooth progress of the conference. From2003to2012, Premier Wenhas been well known for his quotations of the classics and is therefore called“poetry Premier”. The poetry interpretation is the difficult point of translation;however related research is limited. What’s more, the interpretive theory is thetheoretical basis of interpretation, but the research involved the interpretive theoryand poetry translation of the press conference presents in limited amounts. Therefore, the author analyzes the characteristics of discourse based on theinterpretive theory and the faithfulness and adequacy which should be wellfollowed during the interpretation. In order to study the subject, the author selectsthe Premier’s speeches from2003to2012and the interpreting versions as thecorpus. The author believes that there are some constrains in the interpretingprocess, such as the linguistic limitation of the interpreter, cognitive complements, and context. Moreover, the addresser, the audiences and the environment can alsoinfluence the interpreting effect. Firstly the interpreter should comprehend thesource language and then deverbalization comes, and finally the interpreter givesthe re-expression in the target language. In this process, the comprehension and preparation can be used to deal with the problem, while during the output process;interpreter can use equivalence, sense explanation, sentence rearrangement andcontextual linking. And then, the author verifies those strategies under differentconstraints. This paper combines the theory with case study, analyzes the interpretingconstraints and strategies, and hopefully sheds a light on the interpreting ofChinese poetry interpreting.
