The Travels of Lao Can is known as one of the "Four Novels" in late Qing Dynasty with highdegree of spoken language. It basically reflected the language of the original, with a high valueof the corpus. In this paper, the preposition of The Travels of Lao Can is our research object. Weused a method based on description and lasted static analysis combining quantitative andqualitative analysis, for its comprehensive and detailed study of the system.Apart from the introduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into three chapters.Introduction introduces the significance of intermediary words The Travels of Lao Can, currentresearch, research methods and use of symbols and other issues. The first chapter is theintroduction; firstly we introduced the current situation preposition studies. The prepositionresearch is divided into three periods: the period of time, created period, and mature period.Secondly, introduces the research status of The Travels of Lao Can. Finally, we discuss themeaning of preposition. In this part we had to distinguish prepositions and verbs andconjunctions. We then comb the preposition definitions from the diachronic perspective, andfinally our views are given. In prepositional classification, we first introduced the classificationof each of the preposition, and then combined with The Travels Of Lao Can language practice,the prepositions of The Travels Of Lao Can is divided into: time, location, direction ofpreposition; object, scope preposition; Methods, basis preposition;reason, objective preposition;passive, the disposal preposition five categories. The second chapter of the paper is theclassification description of preposition. According to the different components Prepositionsemantics,63prepositions (42monosyllabic, two-syllable21) are divided into five categories:time, place, and the direction of classes; objects and scope of class; manner and method of class;reason and purpose of class; disposition and passive category. For each class of each prepositionprepositions is analyzed quantitative and qualitative. In describing the process, we pay attentionto the history from the perspective of Chinese grammar prepositions to illustrate. The thirdchapter is based on the classification of prepositions,14pairs consisting of287cases prepositionframework description. According to the words of the different parts of speech which act as a preposition framework,287cases preposition framework in The Travels of Lao Can is dividedinto four categories:"Orientation type" preposition framework;"the noun word" type prepositionframework;"quasi-particle type "preposition framework; the framework of a special class ofprepositions. Each type of frame is described from the syntactic structure, syntactic function,semantic structure and semantic features, etc., for quantitative and qualitative research. Finally,the conclusion, on the basis of The Travels of Lao Can describing the system on prepositions,summarizes the characteristics of prepositions and prepositional framework.
