With the deepening of China’s reform and opening up, exchanges between China and foreign countries become more and more frequent. In order to better learn from the advanced management experience, more and more books on management are introduced into China, many of which are translated into Chinese and used as textbooks in Chinese universities. This is of great significance to enhance domestic education level and cultivate high-quality talents. These books are closely linked with the study of college students. Therefore, the quality of translation must be attached with great importance. These texts are involved with relevant theories and terms of management and communication. In addition, there are many differences between Chinese and English. It is a great challenge to translate such kind of text.This report is based on the author’s practice of translating the first chapter of Strategic Communication in Business and the Professions, focusing on the problems encountered in the process of translation and corresponding solutions. In the report the author first gives a brief introduction of the original text, and then analyzes the lexical, syntactic and stylistic features respectively. A translator must be aware that text analysis is very important in translation. According to Newmark, there are three main types of text:expressive, informative and vocative texts. Semantic translation method is mainly used in expressive text and communicative translation is mainly used in informative and vocative texts. As textbooks belong to informative text, communicative translation is used as the leading translation method. That is to say, the author tries to use natural and idiomatic sentences to convey the original meaning and content.Guided by the text typology theory of Newmark, the author illustrates the strategies of translating textbooks with the examples from this translation practice. When translating terms, parallel texts can be used as reference. When translating long sentences, four strategies can be used:following the original syntactic order, restructuring, conversion and amplification. In addition, a translator can use Chinese four-character idioms to make the translation formal and idiomatic. It is expected that this report will provide some suggestions for those who may encounter such kind of text in the future.
