A Study On Equivalent Translation In Press Conference Consecutive Interpreting From Chinese To English

With China’s reform and opening-up and the rapid development of world economy, consecutive interpreting becomes more and more active on the world stage. In a series of activities such as political, economic and diplomatic activities, consecutive interpreting plays a very important role. With the rapid development of education, although many people who have been foreign language learners, have involved in the interpreting, but there are not many high level professional interpreters. There are many arguments and opinions about equivalent translation among the translators. Nida, Jakobson and Catford all have made contributions to equivalent translation. With the development of the times, the application of equivalent translation in consecutive interpreting becomes more than before. But not many people can use it with ease.In order to make a lot of people understand consecutive interpreting and many foreign language talents do this job well, this paper uses equivalent translation theory as perspective to analyse Zhang Lu’s consecutive interpreting audio. And this paper combines the characters and standard of consecutive interpreting and equivalent translation theory to discuss the solutions of press conference consecutive interpreting from Chinese to English. This is the innovation of this paper.Through the analysis, the writer gets this conclusion: First, conveying ideas is the first principle. The core of equivalent translation is functional equivalence. The meaning of target language is the same as the meaning of source language. Second, in order to be equivalent, interpreter can use literal translation and free translation. At last, emphasizing meaning but not form.
