Within the modern Mandarin research, the general verb is a neglected lexicalcategory. A generalized verb which has only a general meaning on its own but thatexpresses a more precise or complex meaning when combined with another word.Generalized verbs exist not only in Modern Mandarin but also in Vietnamese language.Adopting a questionnaire-based approach amongChinese Students and Vietnamesestudents, this paper aims to explore the usage of three Mandarin generalized verbs "gao","nong","zheng". With the result of analysis of the collected data, the observer performedcontrastive analysis of "gao","nong","zheng" and came a conclusion that inspite of thehigh frequency of these three verbs in Mandarin speakers daily life, Vietnamese studentshave always avoid to use them or always have made mistakes. The result shows thatbesides the difference of the culture circumstances, textbooks and the language levels ofthe speakers, the negative transfer is one of main factors. The paper consists of5chapters:Chapter1: Introductions:theoretical background, research approach and dataresources.Chapter2: The analysis of Mandarin generalized verbs and contrastive analysis ofMandarin and Vietnamese.Chapter3: The usage of generalized verbs "gao","nong","zheng" among Vietnamesespeakers.Chapter4: The analysis of conditions of Mandarin generalized verbs amongVietnamese speakers.Chapter5: The analysis of errors among Vietnamese speakers and methodology.
