This research aims to analyze cloud–based translation mode from the perspectiveof frame theory. Although the research findings of frame theory have already beenapplied to the field of translation studies, few researchers conduct researches onmachine translation from the perspective of frame theory.According to the viewpoint of cognitive linguistics, frame is the schematizationof people’s daily experience that stored in the mind to express the objective reality.People exchange and understand information and knowledge mainly relying on theircognitive frame. Therefore, the translation process is essentially a process ofcognition, in which people look for the appropriate expressions in order to activate thesame or similar cognitive frame to the source language. However, differences exist inthe cognitive frame of people who speak different languages.There are differences between human cognitive frame and machine cognitiveframe at different levels. In the process of language translation, the cognitive basis ofhuman is the deep structure of sentences, and human deals with sentences by takingthem as semantic unities. While for machine, when identifying a sentence, it will firstsegment words of the sentence, then identify the words and search for thecorresponding meanings, and finally put them together to form a sentence. In addition,human can cognize sentences through logic and common sense, and translate on basisof that, while machine, as a formalized cognitive means, fails to do that. Based on theresearch findings, this research puts forward that frame can be constructed formachine by means of simulating the cognitive frame operations of human in theprocess of translation. This research provides a new research perspective for machinetranslation studies and is favorable to improve the quality of machine translation. |
