Teaching Material Design About "The Analects" Thoughts For Foreign Intermediate Learners

Recently, Mandarin enjoys an ascending popularity in the international society and a Mandarin Fever is spreading throughout the world. To a large extent, this success is due to the international promotion of Chinese enterprise. The international promotion of Chinese, an important national strategy based on the Confucius institutes, has begun to take shape. But the present teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL) is not very mature, and still has numerous problems in its concrete pedagogical process. So the TCFL teachers are exploring effective TCFL methods. Some issues, such as how to infiltrate the core of Chinese culture into TCFL, how to get rid of the awkward "no-Confucius" situation in Confucius institutes, how to introduce the universal value of Confucianism into TCFL, are all hot topics in the current academic circles. Therefore, this thesis mainly deals with the compilation of "The Analects" thoughts into Chinese culture textbooks for international students.In addition to introduction and conclusion, the thesis consists of three chapters.The introduction consists of two parts. The first part introduces the emergence of Mandarin Fever throughout the world and summarizes the previous studies on this issue. The second part demonstrates the significance of "The Analects" thoughts teaching in the international Chinese language pedagogy and the promotion of Chinese culture by expounding the spread and ascendance of Confucius and Confucianism in the international society, the achievements of Confucius Institutes in the dissemination of Chinese culture and what role "The Analects" plays in that process.Chapter one deals with the principles and requirements for Chinese culture textbook compilation. In this chapter, the thesis firstly points out that Chinese culture textbook should be scientific and interesting, comprehensive and focused, pertinent and adaptable, and student-centered. Then it moves on to analyze the compilation requirements for the culture textbooks of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Chapter two makes an analysis of the content of "The Analects" as a Chinese culture textbook based on a massive research on pedagogical materials. The thesis firstly analyzes the status quo of TCFL and the compilation of Chinese culture textbook. Then it makes a targeted research of the compilation status quo of "The Analects" thoughts in currently popular Chinese culture textbooks. And thirdly it compares the advantages and disadvantages of the compilation of "The Analects" thoughts in those Chinese culture textbooks, which may be a reference to the compiling "The Analects" thoughts into TCFL textbooks in the future.Chapter three is about the compilation of the "The Analects" thoughts in TCFL textbooks. It firstly sums up which "The Analects" thoughts can fit into TCFL textbooks and the relevant compilation methods and how to adapt them into TCFL textbooks with different target readers. Then it designs a specific plan of compiling the "The Analects" thoughts into TCFL textbooks targeted at the international students in China in the intermediate level of Chinese. Lastly, the thesis offers a curriculum design about the "The Analects" thoughts for the intermediate level students.Then there comes the conclusion.The innovation of this thesis lies in that it analyzes the disadvantages and advantages of the compilation of "The Analects" thoughts in the existing TCFL textbooks to inspire reflection on how to compile "The Analects" thoughts into TCFL textbooks in the future after making a study and comparison of the extant TCFL textbooks. Furthermore, under the principles of the TCFL textbooks compilation,"The Analects" thoughts are compiled into the textbook in an interesting, inspiring and understandable way and a detailed sample of compilation sample is given. While designing the compilation plan, a variety of teaching media are comprehensively used to make "The Analects" thoughts more simply expressed and more accessible to students. However, it is noted that the thesis can be improved in its depth arid accuracy if the author possesses a firmer grasp of "The Analects" thoughts and can be more experienced in TCFL.
