Procedural Structuring Of English To Chinese Consecutive Interpreting

Based on the Penn Commencement Address given by Joseph R. Biden, Jr on the2013Shanghai Forum, this paper is a case study concerning procedural structuring of English toChinese consecutive interpreting. In this paper, procedural structuring refers to syntacticstructure and logical relationship, for example, transition and conversion between eachsentence or each paragraph. By comparing and analyzing the original and interpreting texts,it is aimed to find out the fundamental reason that lies behind misinterpreting and miss ofinterpreting, and to figure out better solution and training methods to these problems. Outof the author’s own experience, it also gives some advice on how to listen effectively andhow to improve interpreting skills and thus enhance the quality of interpreting.
