In the Chinese-English Interpreting phonetic redundancy and linguistic redundancymay occur due to the differences between Chinese and English as well as theincapability of the interpreter. One of the interpreter’s tasks is to convey the speaker’sidea clearly and concisely. Therefore it is necessary to reduce the over redundancy inthe translation.During2013Shanghai mock forum, the speaker started with the most difficult yearfor employment, illustrated the problems in Chinese education and concluded lessonsChina could learn. As the interpreter for the forum, the author elaborates on theconcept of redundancy and raises strategies for redundancy in the Chinese-EnglishConsecutive Interpreting based on the careful analysis of original language andtargeted language. First, the author introduces the definition of redundancy fromdifferent fields and then defines the concept of redundancy in this thesis. Then theauthor classifies redundancy and analyses the reasons based on her personal case. Inthe end, the author proposes several strategies to correspond to redundancy. It ishoped that the study for redundancy and the strategies could help interpreters cutredundant information in the future Chinese-English interpreting so as to improveinterpreting efficiency and quality.
