Redundancy And Its Solutions In Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting

Interpreters are expected to convey the speaker's ideas in an accurate,clear,concise and fluent manner in consecutive interpreting.However,in actual practice,the delivery may be plagued with redundancies due to various reasons,thus making it hard for the audience to follow.What's worse,the audience may in turn lose patience and confidence in the interpreter.Redundancy presents a hurdle for interpreters.This thesis is based on the speech on China's economic prospect in 2020 from Lian Ping,a Chinese economist and the author's Chinese-English consecutive interpreting script.The redundancies in the author's interpreting are divided into three types: fillers,self-corrections and repetitions.After a close look into the case,the author comes up with three causes for redundancies: poor note-taking,poor English proficiency and poor speaking habits.Then practical solutions are put forward.
