In recent years, a growing number of foreign children literature works have been translated into Chinese. It makes indelible contribution to intercultural communication. However, studies on translation of children’s literature are seriously neglected. Therefore, the author hopes to make a contribution to it. This is a translation report on Lost on a Mountain in Maine by Donn Fendler, who is a famous American writer. The first five chapters of the novel have been translated into Chinese. These chapters are mainly about the cause of protagonist’s being lost and alone in mountain for the first two days.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, this report takes the translation of Lost on a Mountain in Maine as a case study to illustrate how to translate cultural-loaded words and figures of speech. According to target readers’ demands, the author takes various translation strategies to get the best effect. The author also hopes that the translated text can be in accordance with children’s reading ability as well as the need to gain more knowledge.Through this translation practice, the author realizes deeply the difficulty of translating children’s literature. As a translator of children’s literature, not only he/she uses simple vocabulary and expressions whenever possible, but also pays attention to express the taste of original texts so that target readers can get the same experience as original readers. Therefore, translators should have a good command of two languages and intercultural knowledge. At the same time, in order to improve translation ability, translators should connect theories and strategies with practice closely.
