Under the trend of globalization, as a growing number of foreign language films swarm into Chinese market, film subtitle translation study draws more and more attention and has become an important and urgent topic of translation study. Although film subtitle translation has made some progress, its norms and guiding theory are far from being perfect, and the quality of the film subtitle translation needs to be further improved. As a major breakthrough in the traditional translation theory, German functionalism "skopostheorie" has opened up a new perspective for subtitle translation study. According to skopostheorie, translation is a purposeful activity, and there is no exception of subtitle translation. Limited by constraints of time and space, subtitle translation is produced to offer well-translated subtitles to the target audience to gain a better understanding of the film plot. Since subtitle translation is a complex and dynamic process, translators should take the characteristics and the principles of subtitle translation into account under the guidance of skopostheorie, selecting appropriate translation strategies to achieve intended specific purpose. The Twilight Saga film series becomes popular both abroad and at home with its grand and beautiful scenes, superb special effects, poignant and moving story lines as well as superb acting skills of actors and actresses. There are mainly two translated subtitle versions of this film series in our country, which also deserves attention. This thesis thus adopts comparative analysis and descriptive methods, takes two translated subtitle versions of the trilogy of the Twilight Saga as a case, analyzes their subtitle translation from the perspective of Skopoostheorie, and points out that translators should take various factors into consideration such as time and space constraints, and choose different translation strategies based on different translation skopos, so as to achieve desired purpose.
