As interpretation plays more and more important role in international affairs andtrans-cultural communications, people develop more intensive and extensive researchabout it and the interpreters’ performance are getting more attention. On the morning ofMarch17,2013, the Press Conference remarked by premier Li Keqiang was held after theclosing of the first session of12thNational People’s Congress. The on-site interpreter wasSun Ning who has abundant experience in taking the role.Based on Eugene Nida’s theory of functional equivalence and with the instruction ofJoan Pinkham’s book The Translator’s Guide to Chinglish, the paper tries to find out theproblems by comparing the two different translation versions (the author’s and Sun Ning’s).It explores the redundancy in C-E consecutive interpretaion, analyzes the redundancy andclassifies it into six types (nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, synonyms and parallelstructures) and explains them with examples. It also summarizes the handling strategy soas to provide guidance and reference for future interpretation activities.
