Motivation is an important psychological factor which affecting second language acquisition, for a second language learner it is not only the reason to start learning, but also the power to keep going. With the increasing number of people who are learning Chinese in the worldwide, to strengthen research on Chinese learners’ motivation has become a consensus.This paper is based in the previous person’s motivation theory, select students of the Chilean Confucius Institute of the University of Santo Tomas as research subjects, to conduct a detailed and comprehensive investigation and analysis of the characteristics and laws of their motivation of Chinese learning, in order to help schools and teachers to develop a corresponding strategies of stimulating learning motivation and to improve the quality and efficiency of teaching and management.This paper consists of five parts:The first part is an introduction, mainly focuses on the origin, status, purpose, meaning, methods and thinking of the study. It says that the Chinese learning motivation of Chilean students had not been received enough attention; it is necessary and worthy to further investigate.The second part focuses on the theoretical basis on motivation, which is the definition and mode of motivation, for example, social psychology motivation mode of Gardner, the expansion motivation theory mode, psychological motivation mode of Williams and three levels of motivations mode of Dornyei.The third part is the design of the process of investigation. We selected students of the Chilean Confucius Institute as research subjects, designed questionnaire with the actual situation and distributed to students, after recovered we counted statistics and did some interviews and classroom observations with a random sample of individuals of learners to investigate their motivation.The fourth part of is the result of the survey. We analyzed statistics with SPSS statistical software. Firstly we analyzed the overall situation of motivation, then analyzed the situation of learners from gender, age, level of Chinese motives these three angles, thirdly analyzed specific motivation of individual learner.The fifth part is on the basis of investigation, to give revelation and suggestions of how to stimulate learners’ motivation. Teachers can establish a good, harmonious with students, maintain a desired state of mind to students, create an attractive classroom environment, set a valuable learning task, and give students a proper evaluation to strengthen their interest in learning. And the managers can attract learners to learn better by recruiting students targeted, establishing a standardized student management system, carrying out a variety of extracurricular activities, selecting appropriate materials, giving teachers training and so on.The sixth part is the conclusion, summarized the main points and conclusions of the full text, and explained some shortcomings in the research of this article.
