This is a translation project report on Introduction to Rural Planning writtenby Nick Gallent, Meri Juntti, Sue Kidd and Dave Shaw, from which the translatorchose Chapter8—Living in the Countryside as the source text. The source text isan introduction to the disadvantages of some key services in rural area, and theefforts to facilitate service provision by the government, social groups andindividuals. The difficulties including terms, non-predicate verbs and longsentences will be addressed with appropriate methods based on the Skopostheorie.This report consists of four chapters: Chapter One presents the project background,objectives and significance. Chapter Two is an introduction to the theoreticalground—Skopostheorie, the source text and the authors. Chapter Three isconcerned with analysis of the source text, difficulties in and methods fortranslation. The last chapter concludes the translation project report by discussingthe gains, the lessons learned and the unsolved problems.
