This is a report on the translation of Chapter 5 in Playing to the World's Largest Audience by Michael Curtin. The source text mainly introduces the globalization of Hong Kong film and television, including the establishment and development of some representative corporate ventures(like TVB),and the contributions of the founders(like Run Run Shaw). The translation practice was conducted under the theoretical guidance of Vemeer's Skopos theory, and the report on the translation consists of four parts.Firstly, this report introduces the background and the significance of the project,as well as the report layout.Secondly,it analyzes the contents and features of the source text.Thirdly,it discusses the difficulties in translation and solutions, including the preparations of translation theory and helpful materials for the translation work.As for solutions to the difficulties, the report dwells on the application of some translation methods under the guidance of three rules of Skopos theory---the Skopos Rule, the Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule. The translator mainly uses diction and conversion of word classes to solve difficulties on lexical level, and uses amplification, omission, inversion and division on syntactic level. Finally, the report concludes the lessons that the translator has gained in the process of translation and points out the problems to be solved.
