This is an English-Chinese translation report for Discourse Comprehension and Memory-the seventh chapter of Psychology of Language, fifth edition. The task, assigned by Professor Cui Yaping, is an important translation exercise for MTI majors. The book is a classic textbook in the field of psycholinguistics, which is widely used in academic research and teaching institutions around the world. Being a text book, with students to be the target readers, its main purpose is to impart knowledge and information of psychology of languages in a specific and logical way. This report, based on the semantic translation and communicative translation theory brought forward by Peter Newmark, a British translation theorist, analyzes some relevant problems and techniques in translating process. It consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction to the background, target, and the significance of the assignment. The second part mainly covers the original content analysis and a brief introduction to the author. The third part discusses the difficulties encountered during the translating procedure and the preparation works before starting. Most importantly, this part introduces the Semantic and Communicative Translation and its application in practice of the process of translation. The fourth part comes up with the inspiration and experience from this translation work and summarizes some problems yet to be overcome henceforth.
