One of the most important contribution to the twentieth Century psychology is to find the"self".as the core of “self”, the self-concept is always the important concept of psychology ofgreat concern. Research has shown that, the self-concept is an important index of perfectpersonality. The middle school students develop their self-concepts Constantly, start to viewof self dialectically, analyse self, For the junior high school students, whether or notestablish a positive self-concept affect their personality and mental health, so how to improvethe level of self-concept of junior high school students has a very important theoretical andpractical significance. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of GestaltTechnology Group Counseling on self concept of junior middle school students.The research is divided into two parts, the first step investigate the self concept of middleschool students in the "Tennessee self concept scale" questionnaire, and select two classesrandomly a total of64students in the junior middle school in Tangshan City subjects intoexperimental group and control group, Then draw lots to determine the A class (32people) asthe experimental group, B class for the control group (32people),second step intervent eighttimes in the experimental group on Gestalt technology, control group maintain the naturalgrowth state, without any intervention, analyse data of the experimental group after theintervention, comparing the effect of the students’ self-concept level by Gestalt techniquescounseling on the two groups.The results show that: the level of self-concept of the experimental group and the controlgroup before intervention are homogeneous, The level of self-concept of experimental groupafter interventing in(moral self, psychological self, social self, self-criticism, self satisfaction,self identification, self action and total) and other factors improve significantly.Conclusions are as follows:(1) the level of self-concept of the junior high schoolstudents is positive in general.(2) the Gestalt technology counseling program aimed atimproving the self concept of middle school students designed in this study is a set of feasible,effective implementation of the programme.after refinement and revision,it can be popularized and applied in the school mental health education.
