In recent years, as the fast development of Chinese economy, the position of the country is playing a more and more important role in the global economic world. The number of foreign students that come to China to learn the Chinese language is growing all the time, and the number that learns the Chinese language in the world has hit a new record. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language has turned out to be one of the most important platforms to show the Chinese culture.Language and culture are inseparable. The ultimate goal of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is to make more people in the world to know about Chinese culture, to learn about the changing China, to understand Chinese people’s value and philosophy of life, laying a solid foundation for their further communication with Chinese people. But due to various reasons, the emphasis of the language class mainly focus on pronunciations, and the cultural part needs more attention. China is now in an era of reforming, making the country’s culture more diversified and complicated. Television program, as a real reflection of present conditions of society, is an important tool in cultural exchanges. The essay focus on the research of television program and teaching Chinese as a foreign language, trying to introduce television program course into the studies of the foreign students who learn Chinese language, as a good complimentary for them to know more about China and Chinese society.The essay’s introduction part discussed the subject’s significance and purpose. The first part, by analyzing the goal of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the insufficient points of present teaching techniques and the function of television program in cultural exchanges, clarify that the television program is a very necessary tool for Chinese language teaching. The second part of the essay focused on the practicability and necessity of television program course in Chinese language teaching. Meanwhile,124questionnaires from3universities were analyzed. The last part of the essay presented two cases."Focus in Topics" produced by the Central Television of China and news story entitled "Tough way to School", showing how the television programs can help the foreign students to learn Chinese culture and society.
