Ethnic Minority Floating Population Survey And Research

After China’s reform and opening-up, with the rapid development of China’s society and economy, great changes have taken place in social cultural environment of both urban and rural areas. Happening during this process, urbanization is one of the important symbols of contemporary Chinese economic and social development, the most attractive phenomenon of which is population movement. With continued growing floating population in China, among them, the minority constantly become open, which leads a constant communication of each nationality in economy and culture, a more rapid floating condition and a more broad scattered settlement.With more constant floating in the minority, multi-nationalities in urban area have been increasing day by day. Floating population in the minority plays an increasing important role in promoting Chinese economy and social development. Scale of minority flowing to developed regions and cities expands increasingly. For population floating in the minority, it is the inevitable trend in mutual development with urbanization. And it also generates adaption problem of floating population in the minority. Under such circumstance, it’s very important for the stable development of Chinese society to study the current situation and problem that the floating population of ethnic minorities moves into the city.As a national regional central city in China, Nanjing is an important center for politics, military, science, culture, industry, and finance and business. The minority floating population into Nanjing becomes lager and larger, already becoming an important constituent part of the population composition of Nanjing. The mainsprings for them to come to Nanjing could be divided into three aspects.The first one is economic motive, finding expression in the migration from underdeveloped regions to developed regions. The second is motivation of preference for life style. City not only has better economical condition, but also has better living conditions, such as convenient facilities, medical treatment and education of high quality, etc. Therefore, it becomes the moving motivation.The third is the influence from family and friends:friends and relatives, who immigrate to Nanjing earlier, may give them different types of help to promote their immigration decisions.The floating population of national minority into the city is bound to face integration issues in various aspects, because they differ enormously from locals in the aspects of social systems, life styles, values, languages and cultures and economies. Therefore, minority people face the "city integration issue of national minority floating population" as soon as they enter the city. In order to survive the city life and achieve development, minority nationality floating population must integrate into the civil society. Firstly, there are integration issues in terms of economy, namely, income issues, housing environment, employment issues, and social insurance issues. Secondly, there are integration issues in terms of social culture, including language, social interaction, education and so on. The third aspect is the integration issues in psychology, mainly about receiving prejudice and discrimination.If no good solution for floating population problem in the minority, it will bring about unstable society and unsustainable social development. Through this research, I hope to find a harmonious development road of the minority population flowing problems, so as to promote its integration with the modern society well.
