As an important intangible asset of a nation, the image of a country reflects the overallappearance of a country’s political, economic, physical, mental, social, national. It is directlyrelated to the reputation and status of a country in the world. As a rising developing country, theimage of China in the international, directly affects acceptance and cognitive attitude in theinternational society to the rising China. As Chinese neighbor, Asian plays an important role inenergy security, economic development, the peripheral security aspects of the China. Since theend of the cold war, the relationship between Chinese and Southeast Asia is rising. As a majorpower cooperation, responsible country, Chinese image has become increasingly prominent, andfurther deepen the possibility. But at the same time, with the rapid rise of China, various Chinesethreat can be heard without end, Chinese national image may be once shaped for the challengerand even threats by international opinion. To a certain extent, it damages the friendly relationsbetween China and Southeast Asia countries. In this sense, paying attention to and strengtheningthe research about Chinese image in Southeast Asia, has the extremely important theorysignificance and practical significance to lifting a positive image of China in Southeast Asia,eliminating the "Chinese threat".This paper is divided into four parts:The first part, elaborate the definition、feature and effect of national image. At present, thedomestic and foreign scholars do not have a unified understanding on the concept of "nationalimage". Domestic and foreign scholars give a definition of national image from thecommunication, soft power, constructivism, national prestige, national brand perspective. Ilearn from the definition of scholars to redefine the connotation of national image. Thecharacteristics of national image are interactive, generality, relative plasticity, relative stability.The national image plays a very important role for a country to enhance the international status,promote economic development, realize the diplomatic, security target.The second part, elaborate the Southeast Asian countries cognition on the Chinese nationalimage. First, analyzing the Chinese positioning itself to the country’s image, China wants todisplay an image of peace, development, cooperation, responsible great power to the world,which is the basis Chinese shaping and dissemination of national image. After the cold war, China shapes an economic win-win cooperation, equality and openness political, peaceful andresponsible diplomatic, cultural civilization friendly image in Southeast Asia. However, with therise of Chinese powerful, Asian countries are also produced all the wrong cognition to the imageof China, mainly has "the image of the regional security threat","regional economic competitorsimage","regional ecological destroy image","regional resource predator image".The third part, analyze the cause of wrong cognition of Southeast Asian countries to Chinanational image. It mainly includes four aspects, first, Southeast Asian countries have misgivingsabout Chinese rise; second, some Southeast Asian countries have territorial disputes in the SouthChina Sea with China; third, the great power balancing strategy of Southeast Asian countries isnot conducive to the China and Southeast Asia to increase mutual trust; fourth,America andJapan render China threat to the Southeast Asian countries, driving a wedge between the Chineseand Southeast Asian countries.The fourth part, put forward strategies to improve and enhance the image of the Chinese inSoutheast Asian countries. It mainly includes five aspects, first, increasing the propaganda on theroad of peaceful development;second, increasing the strength of cultural diplomacy toSoutheast Asia countries; third, properly solving the disputes over the South China Sea; fourth,deepening mutual trust and cooperation with Asian countries; fifth, properly dealing with foreignactivities of America and Japan and other countries in Southeast Asia.
