The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the prevailing theories of self-regulated learning and to try to find out a more comprehensive approach of developing self-regulated learning ability by adopting several scholars’viewpoints. By analyzing the unique characteristics of self-regulated learning itself and examining the deficiency of previous studies on self-regulated learning, the present thesis points out the necessity of carrying out self-regulated learning strategy training in order to develop college students’self-regulated learning ability. Then on the theoretical level, this paper discusses the latest theories and research findings on the role of students’self-regulation of their learning and skillful performance. In so doing, this paper aims to shed new light on formulating an integrated and revised approach of developing self-regulated learning ability. Meanwhile, this paper also tries to have an overall understanding of the features of self-regulated learning and the particularity of Chinese students. Therefore, this thesis revises the way of developing self-regulated learning ability by integrating the existing level of Chinese college students’self-regulated learning and factors affecting self-regulated learning. Moreover, when this revised approach is applied to learning, certain aspects should be focused so as to meet the particularity of Chinese college students. Finally, the present thesis tries to discuss the following questions by making a research: 1. Is self-regulated learning strategy training effective in developing learning ability?2. Is the development of learning ability related to academic achievement?Basically, the thesis consists of six chapters:Chapterl presents the outline of this thesis and the necessity of writing this thesis.Chapter2presents latest main theories of self-regulated learning and ways to develop students’self-regulated learning ability.Chapter3reports factors affecting self-regulated learning and studies on the existing level of college students’ self-regulated learning.Chapter4discusses the way of developing students’learning ability through self-regulated learning strategy training.Chapter5reports the results of the study on justifying the approach’s validity and feasibility and discusses the results.Chapter6draws conclusions including major findings, limitations and recommendations for future research.
