In distance learning, learning resources and learning support services are the most important parts. Learning resources have been highly valued since the start of distance education. It guarantees distance learners to complete autonomous learning effectively, which also is the improvement of distance education bases on. The diversified development of learning resources will greatly challenge the ability of distance learners’choosing and utilizing learning resources.The study categorized distance learning resources and analyze component parts of autonomous learning abilities by summarizing literatures, then composed the restructure of distance learners’learning abilities on using learning resources. Later a questionnaire called " Study on the classified system of distance learning resources and distance learners’learning abilities on using learning resources", and an interview have been worked out on students in Beijing Distance Learning Centers and Beijing Open University. These students vary in age and majors.The conclusions of this survey are:(1) On-campus resources are still the main learning resources students use, and the utilization of off-campus resources is greatly influenced by the major;(2) Distance learners’learning abilities on using learning resources are affected by some internal and external factors. Internal factors involve age and learning motivation, while requirements from distance schools and teachers, learning support services, and the design of autonomous learning activities are as external factors included;(3) Views of teachers on students’learning ability differ from that of students on their self-learning abilities;(4) With certain kind of autonomous learning ability lacked, students’autonomous learning abilities are unevenly developed.Above all, the study suggests to strengthen learners’abilities on using learning resources from both the perspective of students and the perspectives of distance schools and teachers.(1) From the perspective of students:distance learners should enhance autonomous learning awareness to promote all-round development of learning abilities under the help of teachers.(2) From the perspective of distance schools and teachers:distance schools ought to establish on-campus resources and off-campus resources separately combining with their features of specialty and resources. Distance teachers should ask students to use learning resources as often as possible, attach importance to the design of autonomous learning activities, and provide students perfect learning support services.
