New Chinese Readings found its way out as an extracurricular reading among the waves of criticisms from the public to Chinese teaching instruction in the late20th century. It has raised a great concern from all walks of life for its new educational ideas, unique material selecting insight, creative formatting, new reading framework and mode.New Chinese Readings advocate nurturing the next generation in a comprehensive way for their lifetime with the masterpieces both at home and abroad. However, New Chinese Readings haven’t got a teachers’reference book alongside and teachers have to explore methods of application with their own teaching experience, thus leading to deviation or roundabouts in teaching.My paper attempts to offer feasible reading instruction strategies in three aspects:The paper starts to analyze the importance of strategies in real teaching by presenting the publication background information and the general characteristics of New Chinese Readings and goes on to investigate how students get on with the material. By analyzing the statistics collected from the investigation, three reading instruction strategies will be offered on how to make the most of the material in teaching. The paper is intended to provide some reference ideas for teachers in classrooms, making it play a key role in extracurricular reading.
