Masters of education intends to develop educators with high level educatingphilosophy and professional knowledge. Student’s professional identity will exert adirect influence on their future educational career. Based on this, by issuingquestionnaires and interviewing, this paper launched an investigation on theprofessional identity toward professional type postgraduates and academic typepostgraduates respectively from N Normal University in order to analyze the statusquo, developing process and the similar factors that influencing professional identity.At present, the professional identity of professional type postgraduates andacademic postgraduates are in the medium level on the whole. Meanwhile, theprofessional identity varies obviously among students from different grades andAll the differences are listed as following:1. The professional identity degree of academic postgraduates is lower than thatof the professional type postgraduates.2. For academic type postgraduates, the degree of male postgraduates’professional identity is higher than that of the female counterparts. Differences alsoexist in the cognition field. On the contrary, to professional type postgraduates, femalestudents hold a more positive view than their male peers.3. With regard to students from different grades, they have different opinions ontheir major. Senior students tend to take more pessimistic thoughts than juniorstudents. Viewing from the cognition dimension of academic type postgraduates, thecognition degree of grade two students is the highest; both grade one students andgrades three students are lower than them. For professional type postgraduates, thingsare different; the cognition level rises along with the rises in grades.Therefore, there are several factors influencing students’ professional identity ina complicated and diverse way. These factors include: learning environment,influences by others, learning motivation, the reason for choosing major and the majorconstruction. In the end, this paper proposed several suggestions for promotingprofession identity from the perspective of major construction and development byenriching major education, enhancing major learning and strengthening vocational counseling.
