In People’s Republic of China, the development of music education has beenabout sixty years, in the new historical period, to review and reflection the history ofmusic education, is an important theoretical support to promote development of musiceducation. In this paper the research means of literatures, comparison and so on havebeen used to carry on longitudinal comparative study to the developing process ofmusic curriculum in primary and secondary school. From the perspective of thehistory of music discipline, with the founding of new China, the central governmentissued related ordinary primary and secondary education (Teaching), curriculumplanning, curriculum standard (Syllabus), music education as the main clue ofhistorical development, combined with the related historical materials, using ofcurriculum theory, to detailed investigation of new Chinese curriculum in primary andsecondary school music curriculum, curriculum goal, the course content, curriculumevaluation and other aspects of the historical evolution process, analysis of differenthistorical stages of music curriculum’s characteristic, summarizes some regularities ofexperiences and lessons for today’s music, curriculum reform. Summary this paper,draw the following main conclusions:First, the new China primary and secondary school music curriculumdevelopment has experienced five stages: the transitional period tosocialism(1949-1956), the period of overall exploration of socialism (1957-1966),thebeginning of reforming and opening period(1978-1990),rapid reforming and openingperiod (1991-2000), the comprehensive promotion of quality education period (2001to date). In each stage, from the three major aspects, historical background, events andtheir impact to show the art curriculum development process in primary andsecondary school.Second, through to the analysis of the curriculum, curriculum objectives, contentstandards, teaching status and other aspects, summed up the development of musiccurriculum in new China primary and secondary school.
