In order to explore an effective teaching mode for Information Technology classes in junior middle schools, this study probes into the feasibility of creating a story situation in the Information Technology classes as a teaching mode, based on the teaching material "Information Technology" published by the Fujian Education Publishing House. The experimental research lasts four semesters, with students of Junior Grades7-8of Ningde Nationality Junior Middle School, Fujian province as the subjects, who are divided into three experimental groups:group1(class taught by conventional teaching methods), group2(class led-in with a story) and group3(class with a story situation all through). In this experiment, it is expected that group3will turn out best. Working cooperatively in class, they explore the main problems in the story, understand the situation and try to solve practical problems while expanding their cultural knowledge and developing their information literacy in the process. This study leads to the formation of an effective teaching mode based on the story situation creating strategy. The conclusion of this study is as follows:(1) story-based teaching mode is suitable for most Information Technology classes in junior middle schools;(2) story-based teaching mode raises the teaching and learning efficiency considerably in general;(3)story-based teaching mode arouses most students’ interest in their study and their awareness of operation, improves their knowledge-integrating capability and humanistic thinking quality;(4) story-based teaching mode helps to improve teachers’educational attainments and teaching techniquesAt the end of the paper, some suggestions are put forward on what knowledge and competence teachers should be possessed of so as to adopt the teaching mode well.
