The research will focus upon female university teachers’ body-building states,physiogenesis features and mental heath. Yoga will be chosen as the experimentalsport, because it is a scientific and artistic sport witch can not only ameliorate bodiesbut also reduce weight. A comparing experiment is undertaken between femaleteachers at Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University taking this exercise andthose not, this research collects various data on physical shape, physical functioning,physical health and mental health in order to find out the effect of yoga practice onphysical and mental health of female university teachers. The object of this research isto provide tentative suggestions on the promotion and popularization of yoga in femaleuniversity teachers, the increase of their awareness of taking exercises, theenhancement of their physical and mental health, as well as the decrease of theirphysical and mental pressure.This research is to investigate the effect of yoga on physical and mental health offemale university teachers from Nanchang, for this purpose, various methodologies isapplied, including information collection, interview, investigation, experiment andmathematical statistics. The following conclusions can be drawn:1. After taking yoga training, female teachers’ body shape gets improvedsignificantly. Compared with the control group, there are notable reduces in theirweight, waistline, hipline, waist-hip ratio and body mass index (P <0.05);2. Compared with the control group, for female teachers taking yoga training,their physical quality achieves significant improvement, and their balance capacity andflexibility increase significantly (P <0.05);3. Compared with the control group, female teachers’ bodily functions enhancenotably after yoga training, and the resting heart rate, diastolic blood pressure as wellas systolic blood pressure decrease dramatically (P <0.05). In respect of step index andvital capacity, a significant increase can be observed (P <0.05);4. Compared with the control group, after yoga training, the mental health offemale teachers’ mental heath is improved greatly. In their SCL self-assessment form,the research finds that scores of somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, anxiety and depression decline notably (P<0.05) except terror and paranoia. In BDI and BAI selfassessment form as well as insomnia symptom scale, the score also decreasedsignificantly (P<0.05).Yoga is beneficial to shape bodies of female teachers, improve their physicalfunction, and enhance their physical quality, therefore, it is a quite suitable way fortheir fitness and bodybuilding. What’s more, yoga can improve their mental health andrelieve their depression, anxiety and other negative emotions and stresses, as a result, itwill promote their physical health at the same time.
