Teaching material has been in a position of authority under the influence of thetraditional concepts of education in a long time. Teaching is teaching textbooks andsimply reproducing the textbook content to a large extent. The Geography teaching ismisinterpreted as repeating and meeting the entrance examination for the sole meaning. Thenew curriculum brings a new concept of teaching materials, it’s no longer teaching standardsbut an important curriculum resource. As developers of curriculum resources, the teachershave powers and responsibilities to develop teaching materials. On the other hand, the newcurriculum provides this perspective: Education should be student-centered; teaching is notonly to teach students knowledge, but also to reflect the subject’s value of helping lifelongdevelopment of students. Textbook secondary development has become an inevitable trend.There are two particularly important things for geography teachers: Why do we developsecondary development? How should we develop secondary development? What isextreme important in the second question is that the unique value of geography for students’lifelong development and how to embody it.The article is divided into five parts. The1st part summarizes the background, literaturereview, research significance, research methods. The2nd part proposes a variety ofeducational, psychological, geography theories and knowledge which have theoreticalsignificance. The third part is about the principles of secondary development. The4th part isthe preliminary work to determine the starting point and the direction of secondarydevelopment, including course standards analysis, students analysis, teachers analysis andteaching material analysis. The last one is the core content of the article methods ofsecondary development.
