| A school is a social organization. Like other social organizations, it has its own culture.There are numerous researches on school culture and different scholars have different interpretations of the meaning of school culture. In this study, school culture is defined from the perspective of the organizational culture as its basic assumptions, values and behavior standards forming in the process of long-term development of the school that have jointly accepted and followed by members of the school.In the process of current competition of schools, the role of the school culture is increasingly apparent, and it has caused the attention of researchers and school administrators. In the face of the changing external environment, in order to promote schools’development and to improve the competitiveness of the school, changing school culture become an important factor to consider. The premise of changing school culture is diagnosing and analyzing its own school culture.This study is based on Kim S.Cameron and Robert E.Quinn’s theory on organizational culture.It takes the perspective of the reality and the ideal as an entry point, using the case study method, questionnaire survey, supplemented by interviews, investigating the reality and the ideal school culture of the S primary school in Jinzhou,Liaoning province,based on the analysis of the gap between the reality and the ideal of school culture,trying to explore the strategy of improving school culture.The specific process is as follows:First of all,investigating the reality and the ideal state of the S primary school culture from six aspects:school characteristics, leadership characteristics, teachers managing, school strategic emphasis,the definition of success with questionnaires and finding the gap between them. Secondly, confirming the school culture and analyze the reason for the gap through further interview.Then, analyzing school culture basing on the questionnaire survey results and interview results.Finally,presenting an overview of the school culture and putting forward some suggestions for the school culture improvement according to the gap between reality and ideal and the reasons for it.The thesis is divided into five parts.The first part makes notes on research background, research problem, research significance and the research ideas and methods.The second part,first review the research results form the six aspects including school culture’concept, characteristic,type, function, construction and measurement of school culture through a lot of literature review.Then it expounds the related theory of Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument(OCAI) and introduces the school culture assessment instrument,laying the foundation for further empirical research and countermeasure analysis.The third part introduces the basic situation of the S primary school and diagnoses the school culture basing on the results of questionnaire survey and interviews.The forth part outlines the whole status of primary school S from the present situation of the school culture,the ideal school culture characteristics,the gap between them and the reason for it.Then, trying to put forward the corresponding improvement suggestions.The fifth part is the epilogue of the study. |
