Previous studies of children’s self-consciousness focused on whether the children formed a positive self-consciousness (in this study it called the self-consciousness attitude). According to the definition of self-consciousness and the conclusions of previous studies, we consider the fit of the evaluation and cognition of the individual’s and external evaluation to be the main dimension about the health self-consciousness of children. This paper studied the development of students’ self-consciousness attitude and self-consciousness objectivity from the third to the fifth grade, and the influence on mental health. According to the results of the survey, it puts forward advice of improving self-consciousness attitude and self-consciousness objectivity. This study used the children’s self-concept scale, teacher evaluation questionnaire and mental health test. This investigation selected three classes from the third to fifth grade of the108primary school in Changchun. The results showed that:1.The development of the third to the fifth grade children’s self-consciousness attitude has a significant difference in gender, girls in their each aspect of self-consciousness attitude is more positive than boys. In the self-consciousness objectivity, less than half of the students can make objective evaluation of themselves, and in those who can’t evaluate themselves objectively, girls tend to overestimate themselves and boys tend to underestimate themselves. In the third grade, boys can evaluate themselves more objectively than girls in all aspects of self-consciousness objective. In the fifth grade, there are no significant differences among the aspects of self-consciousness objective except on the subscale of behavior and gregarious;2.the third grade children’s self-consciousness attitude is more active than the fourth grade’s, but there is no significant difference between the fourth and the fifth grade. The children’s self-consciousness attitude has a downward trend from the third grade to the fourth grade. The development from the fourth grade to the fifth grade has no obvious change;3.the self consciousness objectivity of the third grade students is better than that of the fourth grade students. There is no change between the fourth and the fifth grade. The development of objectivity of students’ self-consciousness from the third to the fourth grade is decreased, and the development between the fourth grade and the fifth grade is not obvious;4.whether self-consciousness attitude or objectivity has an extremely significant negative correlation with mental health. The students who has a positive evaluation on the self-consciousness, has a high level of mental health. On the self-consciousness objectivity, the students have high level mental health who overestimates himself, on the contrary, students who underestimates himself has a low level of mental health. This shows that promote the children’s positive evaluation about themselves in the process of education has beneficial to children’s mental health growth.
