By using survey research method, a comprehensive survey was carried out upon thefaculty of an elementary school in Ningbo to learn the status quo of the school-based teachingresearch program of the sample school. The purpose was to understand the elementaryteachers’ demand of the school-based teaching research, on the contents, methods, andorganization dimensions, and in an effort to make improvements and provide innovativeexperiences and strategies. The existing status of the sample school’s school-based teachingresearch is not optimistic, and many issues need to be addressed. The cognition of school-based teaching research status quo is influenced by gender, length of teaching andprofessional titles. Subject knowledge, curriculum knowledge, scientific research methods,students’ knowledge and interpersonal relationships are the contents of the teachers’ school-based teaching research. The disparity of the teaching years would remarkably affect thejudgment of demand for contents. The forms of school-based teaching research under theguidance of experts and masters are welcomed and this judgment is influenced by gender.Teachers prefer to do the research in a subject group and a teaching research group.Based on the conclusion of this survey, with the consideration of teachers’ professionaldevelopment theory and useful experiences during school-based teaching research,suggestions are submitted in three dimensions: Carefully Selected Contents, ImprovedMethods, and Optimized Organization. With the goal of advancing the teachers’ professionaldevelopment, the school should provide different teachers with relevant teaching researchcontents prioritized in the areas of subject knowledge, the knowledge and management ofstudents, interpersonal relationship, and professional planning. The school should realize theimportance of the guidance of experts and create learning communities to promote teachingresearch with consensus solutions. The school should also take steps to improve theeffectiveness of teaching supervised by masters by given the same lesson in different classes,so comparisons could be made among these classes in the purpose of furthering progress.Theschool should activate the efficiency of the subject group and grant it with substantialprofessional authority, and expand the independent jurisdiction of the school’s teachingresearch group in the practice of using it as the professional base of the school-based teachingresearch. The ultimate goal of the research is to refine the school-based teaching researchsystem with buildup expertise.
