As society moves forward and science and technology advance, people havedifferent requirements for higher education. Social needs become more diverse,therefore a single skill cannot meet social demand. To adapt to new social needs,nowadays reform of education models is in full swing. Some polytechnicuniversities are shifting their education models from teaching-based education toproject-based research education.Since the introduction of project-based learning into China, there have beentheoretical and practical researches on this subject in basic education, vocationaleducation and even higher education. It can be said that project-based learning isan important path way to carry out quality education and train talents in the21stcentury. In July2011, the Ministry of Education chose26universities to launchpilot programs on project reform. One of the priorities in the “pilot areas ofeducational reform” is to innovate talent training models, respect the role ofstudents as the main part in education, motivate students to take the initiative.Against this backdrop, research on the teaching and evaluation of project-basedlearning is of critical theoretical and practical implications for the ongoingcollege educational reform and the training of innovative talents for socialdemand.This thesis consists of three parts: the first part introduces project-basedlearning in college education based on the analysis of project-based learning andthe theories related to education evaluation, taking the project-based learning inWorcester Polytechnic Institute in the US as an example; the second part is thequestionnaire designed based on theories and case studies to evaluate the effectof project-based learning on students’ performance; the third part includes thesurvey on the effect of project-based learning in Harbin Institute of Technologyparticipated by freshmen and sophomores in this university, and the results of thesurvey and draws the related conclusion.
