For researchers’part, the norm and innovation of higher education research has a close relation to the researchers’research quality and the capability of innovation. The research method of higher education is not only an important part in higher education research, but also the main motive power and source of innovations of other researches. From the view of social development, every great achievement in society and science will have effects on people’s conception and ways of thinking, which help make a breakthrough in practice and technology. Therefore, to hackle and integrate educational research method is to show the guiding function of method to some degree which improves the quality of researches. However, in recent years, few researches are involved in it. Experts and scholars should pay more attention on this area. The paper analyzes the using and problems in research method of higher education at present and proposes some plausible measures through sorting out the using situation and its trend in research method in order to promote abilities to research in China.The paper consists of five parts. The first part, an introduction, elaborates the origin of, the significance of and the way of the research and the definitions of relative notions. The second part classifies research methods of higher education and discusses them in the level of methodology and basic research methods further. The third part analyzes the present situation based on data description, priority ranking and the future trend of higher education. The fourth part givers relative conclusions and put out some problems in research methods of higher education by analyzing texts on Chinese higher education researches in recent20years. At present, the general trend of research methods of higher education is that the researches are mainly based on qualitative study while the portion of quantitative research is aggravated. The ways of researches are diversified and integrated, which starts to turn their orientation from themselves to other disciplines. There are still defects in Chinese research methods of higher education. The ways of researches are traditional and simplex; the theoretical researches are formulated; the study of quality and quantity is unbalanced. The researchers have no clear recognition on research methods. The last part reflects and neatens the using of research methods of higher education at present. The main reasons for causing problems stated in the above are:lacking recognition of the complication and particularity of higher educational system, the researchers being short of knowledge of research method, lacking cultivation of research methods in college and universities and lacking powerful support from society and college and universities. For researchers, to use research methods in a reasonable and flexible way they should keep the following things:the integration of complicated thinking and multi-disciplines research, of quality and quantity, of diversity and unify, of instrument and value, and of present and future.
