One of the goals of new biology curriculum reform is to inform biological science literacy. Both liberal arts students and science students should have a certain biological science literacy. But biological science literacy training can not be taught directly to students, we need to make efforts to explore in the biology teaching. The study, combines practice and theory, investigates biological science literacy training strategy from the view of liberal arts students.By means of reading numerous scientific literatures, biological science literacy including the bio-scientific knowledge, methods of biological sciences and biological sciences attitude was summarized. According to the three aspects, the pretest and posttest questionnaires were designed. The pretest survey results found that the arts students from Guangming New District High School have a low level of biological science literacy, the proportion of the biological science literacy is only4.3%. Lacking for an integral biological science knowledge system and bio-scientific attitude are the main reasons.Based on the above findings, a quasi-experimental research was conducted in two classes with two classes as control. A variety of teaching methods to developing science literacy was designed, such as interesting experiments, biological hot spots, role-playing etc. Through a semester of teaching practice reform, a posttest survey of the biological science literacy was conducted at the end of the semester. The survey results show that the experimental class achieved good results, with scientific literacy ratio of7.2%. With scientific literacy ratio of5.6%, control classes also have been improved, which indicated that the classroom teaching is the main way to improve biological science literacy. The pretest and posttest results show that the reform of the teaching practice really works, because the students form a more perfect knowledge of biological sciences, objective and rigorous scientific attitude towards the biological sciences.Based findings on analysis of biological science literacy of liberal arts students, there are some ways to develop the biological science literacy. 1. Expanding access to acquire knowledge of the biological sciences, like school, social and family pathway. Society and the family play an integral role in the literacy training of biological sciences. School approach is the most important way, mainly through extra-curricular activities and developing a good biological sciences atmosphere.2. Changing teaching perceptions, such as indicating students to form the biological sciences knowledge system, strengthening the biological experiment teaching and focusing on the history of biological science education.3. Changing the way of students learning. In order to change the passive acceptance of liberal arts students learning, mainly through the promotion of inquiry-based learning to. This study shows that the biological scientific literacy not only helps to improve the liberal arts students form a good knowledge of biological sciences, conduct the students to form a correct biological scientific attitude, but also help students understand the relationship between biological sciences,society and life.
