Chinese hundred-eight lessons is collaborated by Xia Mianzun and Ye Shengtao which is a junior middle school Chinese textbook with distinctive features. The original plan was to publish six volumes, due to the outbreak of Anti-Japanese War the fifth and sixth volumes were failed to compile, only the1~4volumes were published in actual. The teaching material for each class as a unit has four parts, including Wen Hua, anthologies, grammar or rhetoric, exercises. As a characteristic Chinese teaching material for junior middle school, Chinese hundred-eight lessons has highly praised since it published, and it also attracts the interest of a large number of researchers, producing fruitful research results.This paper tries to analyze、study and discuss the historical background and the reason of how Chinese hundred-eight lessons was produced from the perspective of history, clarifying the general situation of the junior middle school Chinese textbooks in20or30s of the20th century,founding the exiting problems and shortcomings, especially the relationship of Xia Mianzun and Ye Shengtao with the compilation of Chinese hundred-eight lessons,Kai Ming Bookstore with the compilation and publication of Chinese hundred-eight lessons, the evaluation and its influence in contemporary and subsequent educational field and academia when it produced.,thus we shall have a clear understanding of how Chinese hundred-eight lessons was produced, and then get the enlightenment in order to make a beneficial exploration for the future Chinese teaching material compilation,Chinese education and teaching reforms and practices.To achieve these goals, this paper discusses from the following five aspects:The exordium introduces the main contents of Chinese hundred-eight lessons, analyzes the research situation, and then points out the reasons why this topic is chosen and the research objects of this paper, research methods as well as innovations.The first chapter is to analyze how Chinese hundred-eight lessons was produced from the perspective of history,mainly including the general situation of the junior middle school Chinese textbooks in20or30s of the20th century and its main problems.the original intention of the compilation of Chinese hundred-eight lessons edited by Xia Mianzun and Ye Shengtao,Kai Ming Bookstore with the compilation and publication of Chinese hundred-eight lessons, in hope that we shall have a clear understanding of how Chinese hundred-eight lessons was produced.The second chapter states the innovations and characteristics of Chinese hundred-eight lessons,points out that the textbook was not only inherited and developed Xia Mianzun and Ye Shengtao’s compiled thoughts in junior middle school Chinese textbook, but also got the references and innovations from the contemporary junior middle school Chinese textbooks and thus formed its unique style.The third chapter is to discuss the book’s social influence and its evaluation in academia.The conclusion is mainly to discuss what we can learn from the compilation of Chinese hundred-eight lessons when we compile the textbooks for primary and secondary schools.
