Writing is a comprehensive practice in which writers use words to express thoughts and feelings. The writing textbooks are the carrier of writing teaching and the compilation and content of their writing system will influence both teachers'writing teaching and the development of students'writing ability. Therefore,it is of theoretical and practical significance to study the writing system in Chinese textbooks. After four years of compilation, the Chinese textbook for middle school students by the Ministry of Education of China, incorporating some new advanced ideas and practice, was finished and put into use nationwide in 2016.The Chinese textbook of One Hundred and Eight Lessons of Chinese Language(???????)is influential in the history of Chinese modern language education. It was compiled based on the notes on essays(“??”)in a systematic and reasonable manner. This research takes the Chinese textbook for middle school students compiled by the Ministry of Education and the Chinese textbook in the Minguo Period(1920-1949)--One Hundred and Eight Lessons of Chinese Language as research objects and makes an all-round comparison between the writing systems in these two textbooks.First of all,the principles of compilation and guiding concepts are compared, and the differences between the two textbooks are treated historically and objectively by considering the different times they are published. The second and third chapters are the highlights of the thesis in which the compiling of the writing systems of the textbooks is analyzed comprehensively and the textbooks are compared in the macro level;then in the micro level, the writing systems of the textbooks are compared in terms of writing objectives, writing guidance, writing knowledge, and writing training;on this basis, the advantages and disadvantages of the textbook by the Ministry of Education compared to the One Hundred and Eight Lessons of Chinese Language are found.By comparative study,it is found that the textbook by the Ministry of Education is not precise enough in writing sequence and not detailed enough in writing guidance, but it has advantages in terms of respecting students' dominant role and valuing the development of students' Chinese competence. In the third chapter, suggestions for teachers in their use of the textbook by the Ministry of Education are made based on the practical significance of the One Hundred and Eight Lessons of Chinese Language. It is suggested that teachers should improve the effectiveness of using the textbook by establishing a more scientific writing system sequence, valuing writing guidance, digging into the essays in the textbook and finding out their values, and optimizing writing training. This comparative study is expected to help the front-line teachers to use the writing system in the textbook more effectively, thus guaranteeing writing teaching quality.
