| As a well-known Chinese textbook of high school during the Republic of China, One Hundred and Eight Chinese Units plays an important role in the modern Chinese education. Accompanied with the article, anthology, grammar and rhetoric, Its exercise system “exercise and questing” aims at testing students’ understanding and acquirements for learned knowledge. Through literature consulting, text analyzing and form recording, this paper analyzes the forming background of exercise system in One Hundred and Eight Chinese Units, points out its age limitations, and mainly illustrates its superiority. Through these, some inspiring opinions for modern Chinese textbooks exercise system are expected to obtain.This paper has four parts. In introduction part, upon the exercise system in One Hundred and Eight Chinese Units, this paper gives a concept definition, analyzes its study status from horizontal and vertical level and points out three methods adopted in the studying process. The first part of main body is the forming background and general characteristics of One Hundred and Eight Chinese Units. This paper discusses its forming background and illustrates its general characteristics through three perspectives of effects of western education thoughts, introduction of curriculum standards and compilation of Chinese textbooks in same period. The second part is about the limitation of the exercise system in One Hundred and Eight Chinese Units. This paper points out that this kind of exercise system has limitation in several aspects, such as simple question types, few ways to state the questions and confusing expression. In the third part, this paper listed this exercise system’s advantages. Its superiority mainly embodies in refining questions, emphasizing article and grammar, advancing practical and rational exercise, closely relating to unit teaching goals, focusing on article connection and other aspects. In this part, this paper also points out some inspiring opinions from this exercise system to the current Chinese textbooks in high school. Second part and third part are key parts of this paper. In the conclusion, firstly, the paper illustrates the basic principles of that exercise system in One Hundred and Eight Chinese Units embodied by “exercise and questing” as following: embody teaching goals, strengthen students’ knowledge, test teaching results of teachers and foster students’ ability of independent studying. Then, this paper gives a general conclusion about the content of this paper. |
