There are four versions senior high school geography textbooks in Mainland China after High School Geography Curriculum Standard (Experimental Version) was promulgated in2003. Each version has its own typical characteristics and its good points. Recent years, as the curriculum reform of geography in senior high school is deepening, a policy requirement of textbook diversification put forward by Basic Education Curriculum Reform (Trial Implementation). Meanwhile, a lot of problems are emerged during the usage of the each version, the research of senior high school geography textbook is imperative.The article aims to make a comparison study on senior high school geography textbooks of both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Required geography of Hunan Education Press(Hunan Version for short) of Mainland China and Lungteng Cultural Co., Ltd(Lungteng Version for short) of Taiwan are chosen as research objects for they are representative. Draw lessons from the advantages of Taiwan senior high school geography textbooks, enhance the compilation quality of Mainland China senior high school geography textbooks, propel senior high school geography curriculum reform and survey the development of senior high school geography education of Mainland China with a wider horizon.By means of Literature reading, Document resourcing, Survey interviewing and so forth. First, comparing curriculum standard(curriculum outline), curriculum provision and textbook publication of senior high school on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, then comparing the contents selection, contents organization and modes of presentation between Hunan Version and Lungteng Version. Each part present Lungteng Version first, next compare the similarities and differences between Hunan Version and Lungteng Version, at last come to some conclusions and enlightenments. At the ending part of the article, put forward some proposes as below according to the conclusions and enlightenments preceding:On the view of contents selection:aggrandize the contents of regional geography; timely update the materials; choose the materials that helpful for the development of students; raise scientific level of the textbook.For the aspect of contents organization:organize general geography using various methods; expand specific contents depending on student psychological model; make geographic research methods as class contents.As for modes of presentation:on the point of text system:increase expound of key knowledge; magnify fonts size and gaps; normalize language description; add the contents with methods of discussion and problematic; on the point of image system:raise the quality of pictures; design the images with diversified forms; normalize the form and the protection of the pictures; select the graphics that relevant to the students’lives; on the point of activity system:promote functions of various activities; crystallize the activities; diversify the mode of activities; make the activities accustomed to students.
