In the University’s internal governance, student is the most important stakeholder, students participation also have long been an important means of university governance in Western countries. In contrast, China’s students participation in university governance has not been given due attention, the practice is still in the primary stage, and has not formed a set of mature participation mechanism. With the continuous reform and perfection of university management system, China’s students have not only accepted the school management as a "manager", but look forward to have more opportunities to participate in University governance especially to participate in the decision-making on major issues involving the interests of the student. This is partly because of the development of economy and society, which greatly improved the external environment of democratic politics, students’democratic consciousness cognition and its subject status also gradually deepened, which created the soil for student participation in university governance; on the other hand, University is the core force of national innovation system, whose internal stakeholders’claims and rights received more and more attention, especially the application of modern organization and management theory such as embedding theory and network governance theory in the field of higher education, has provided the theoretical and methodological support for students to participate in university governance. This paper tries to find out the existing deep-seated problems and their reasons in China’s student participation in university governance. On the basis of the practical experience of western countries for reference, with the theoretical framework of university network governance, to construct the mechanism suitable for China’s student participation in university governance, and provide positive suggestions for the final implementation of the participation mechanism. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the research background of student participation in university governance, and defines the core concepts. By reviewing the practice of student participation in university governance in the U.S. and major European countries, it sums up some references for China. In the fourth chapter, with students in three universities as the object of study, an analysis of the current situation of China’s student participation in University governance is given through questionnaire. The questionnaire is based on five dimensions, launches a detailed investigation into the awareness, motivation, behavior, result and influence factors in the current student participation in university governance, and reveals the existing problems and causes on the basis of survey data. The fifth chapter discusses the construction of mechanism of China’s student participation in University governance. Based on the definition of the scope of participation, with the network governance theory as the analysis frame, it puts forward the construction of student participation mechanism through diversified ways of embedding, and gives a detailed analysis of specific ways of three kinds of embedding forms, named relational embedding, structural Embedding and knowledge embedding. The last chapter puts forward some corresponding recommendations on the basis of the above research.
