On The New Local Universities And Colleges In Fujian

Since the higher educational enrollment expansion in the early2000s, new local universities and colleges have sprung up like mushrooms in China and have played an important role in the development and popularization of higher education. They have emerged as a dynamic force for higher education. At the executive meeting held on February26,2014, the State Council decided to accelerate the development of modern vocational education, especially "to transform a batch of universities and colleges into application-oriented ones", which has provided a clear guidance for the development of new local universities and colleges and served to further probe into them.This paper neither concerns the macroscopic study on these schools, nor the specific case study of them, but focuses on the study of10new local application-oriented colleges in Fujian (e.g. Quanzhou Normal University) and their development prospect of providing good education and serving local economy based on the social and economic development situation and higher education development background in Fujian, region-specific analysis and the basic elements and rules for operating a school.In this paper, it deals with the development and classification of universities and colleges in China through literature search and research; meanwhile, it presents the current situation of higher education development in Fujian, compares from horizontal and vertical perspectives the students, full-time teachers, school party organ and administrative management, school finance and financial management, teaching and scientific research, student management and service and social service in new local colleges in Fujian, identifies the general rules and distinctive characteristics and addresses the problems represented by unclear positioning, regional development imbalance and challenges encountered during the secondary transformation. In order to overcome the general bottleneck facing new local universities and colleges in Fujian, this paper concludes that these colleges should develop a precise objective, highlight distinctive education, make contributions to local development,fulfill the fundamental mission,foster application-oriented talents and proceed with "vocational-oriented undergraduate education".
