Vocational students graduate employment issue has been the focus of vocational education. Inthe face of fierce market competition, especially the rapid expansion of the supply of graduates atall levels, competing with all highly educated, highly skilled graduates, vocational students will bein more severe employment situation. Under severe employment pressure and competition, how tomake career decisions for their own career development is an important issue for vocationalstudents. Career decision-making self-efficacy refers to the degree of confidence that a person needto complete a career-related tasks. It reflects the degree of self-confidence in their own ability tocomplete career-related tasks, which determines the individual’s involvement in the activities of careerchoice and firmness. Thus it affects the behavior of individuals to achieve career goals and career choices.Current research pay more attention to college students’ career decision-making efficacy, whichexpands in terms of gender, age, family status, personality, adapting methods, while there are less studieson that of vocational students. Therefore, in order to explore the personality characteristics of vocationalstudents, the relationship between the professional skills and career decision-making efficacy, this paperselects408students from a vocational school in four professions. This paper will not only use thenewly revised career decision-making self-efficacy scale by Peng Yongxin and the fifth teen PersonalityQuestionnaire revised by Zou Hong, but also use T-test, correlation analysis, regression analysis toinvestigated the personality characteristics of vocational students, the relationship between theprofessional skills and career decision-making efficacy and gives the following conclusions:1. The personality characteristics of vocational students: boys are significantly more cautiousand open than girls, while girls are significantly more emotional than boys; junior students aresignificantly in higher agreeableness was than students in grade one of senior high school, andextraversion, caution. However, openness, caution and emotional nature do not have significantgrade differences. The urban students are significantly more open than rural students, and there isno other significant dimension difference between urban and rural students. Whereas, there is nosignificant personality difference between family with only one child and more than one child.2. Boys can gain higher scores than girls in Chinese, Math and English, professional courses,and they often get more certificates. Junior students can gain higher grades in professional skillsCompetition and get more certificates than first-year students. While there is no significant differencebetween urban and rural areas. And it is true of family with only one child and more than a child. Genderhas significant positive prediction on the scores of Chinese, Math and English and professional courses and average number of certificates. And grade also has significant positive prediction on the results ofprofessional skills competition.3. Vocational students’ career decision efficacy: In addition to problem-solving abilities, boysare significantly higher than girls, there are no significant gender differences in the other aspects ofself-evaluation, gathering information, selecting the target and planning aspects. Junior studentshave not only significantly higher overall career decision-making efficacy than first-year students,but also high self-evaluation and information gathering capabilities. There is no significantdifference between urban and rural students, family with only one child and more than one child.4. There is a significant positive correlation between the extraversion of vocational students andthe scores of professional courses, the average score, the number of certificates and skillscompetition results. Besides, there is a significant positive correlation between the agreeablenessand caution and the entire expertise dimension. And there is also positive correlation betweenopenness and the scores of specialized courses and skills competition results.5. In addition to emotion, the other four dimensions of the five dimensions of personalitycharacteristics of vocational students, namely extraversion, agreeableness, caution and openness areassociated with career decision-making efficacy and overall sense of career decision points;extra-version and openness have a significant positive prediction, while emotion has significantnegative prediction.6. There are significant positive correlation between scores of specialized courses and skillscompetitions of vocational students and various dimensions of professional efficacy. There is onlysignificant positive correlation between scores of Chinese, Math and English and the capacity ofplan making. While except the information-gathering ability, there are significant positivecorrelations between average scores and the other four dimensions. And there are significantpositive correlations between the number of certificates and the other four dimensions except planmaking. Moreover, there are positive correlation between professional skills scores and eachdimension of professional efficacy. Professional skills have significant positive prediction on thefive dimensions of professional efficacy of and professional efficacy scores.7. The five dimensions of personality characteristics of vocational students do not havesignificant regulating effects on professional skills and career decision-making efficacy.
