In the late20th century,MIT started the open course ware project,driving the open educational resources movement.Open educational resources play an important role in promoting the educational equity and realizing the life-long leaming.Therefore, countries around the world have joined the construction of open educational resources.As the leader of open educational resources movement,MIT further launched edX online courses project in2012.Meanwhile,Our country is also committed to constructing the open educational resources.Ministry of education started the national quality courses construction in2003and further launched the national quality open courses construction in2011.As the excellent resources in the new stage,we need to conduct in-depth study about the national quality open courses and the edX online courses.Besides,comparing their similarities and differences,summarizing their excellent experience,we can better construct the national quality open courses.The paper focus on comparing the operating mechanism,learning resources and learning management of the national quality open courses and the edX online courses.In terms of the operating mechanism,the article focuses on the creating and developing, application and sharing,evaluation and management of the resources.The study finds the platform of the edX online course integrates some curriculum development and management tools, the edX online courses follow the creative commons agreement and using the learner-oriented evaluation methods.The above approaches make the course construction more efficient,course application more widely,course evaluation more reasonable.These practices is worth learning.In terms of the learning resources,the article focuses on the characteristics of instructional resources,content resources,process resources and environmental resources.The study finds the design of the edX courses is under the guidance of teaching theories,learning theories and online learning theories.The short videos and the interactive exercises are worth learning.In terms of learning management, the article focuses on the learning mode of the two project.The learning management mode of edX online courses is similar to the formal schools’.This mode makes the learning more meaningful.Besides,the edX online courses grant certificates to the learners who passing the assessment.These strategies are worth learning.According to statistics,analysis,induction and summary,we conclude the similarities and differences of the national quality open courses and the edX online courses in terms of the above three dimensions.Based on this,the article puts forward several corresponding recommendations to guide the construction of the national quality open courses,aiming at producing much more better quality learning resources,promoting the learners’study and improving the quality of education.
