The system of university counselors serves as the important part of highereducation. After decades development, it has made an irreplaceable function in thegrowth and process of college students.With the development of higher education, thefunctions and roles of university counselors have undergone deep changes. Universitycounselors are not only the important part of university management team andteachers, but also the instructors, trainers and server for the growth of college students.Xiangnan University, as a local undergraduate university, has a glorious history of tenyears’ establishment and hundred years’ management. The value of his counselors isincalculable during the construction and development of university. The system ofcounselors is more complete and mature as the ten years’ development. However, themanagement mode of counselors in Xiangnan University has raised many problemsand questions, due to the enlargement of scale for running a school and the subjectiveand objective, the influence and restriction of the situation in the recenteducational reform and development. The problems include misty role definition,broad job content, lower professionalization, weaker the sense of belonging andaccomplishment, obvious burnout and feeble management. In order to deal with theseproblems, the university has to reform from the aspects of thought, managementtheory, management objective, measure and method with the advancing consciousness,which is important and urgent. To improve management mode of counselors is ofimportant theoretical value and practical significance to strengthen timeliness andpertinence, enhance the efficiency and quality of management and the education.This thesis discussed from four parts: the first part addressed the researchbackground, objective and methods; the second part introduced the related definitionsand analyzed several types of management mode of counselors; the third partdescribed the general situation of the management mode of counselors in the light ofactual situation in Xiangnan University, and pointed out its disadvantages; the forthpart gave some suggestions for improving the management mode of counselors inXiangnan University.
