With the deepening of curriculum reform, it’s more and more serious that differentiation phenomenon of high school students’math scores, meanwhile, the gap is more and more larger between excellent students and poor ones. After long-term observations in classes and many exchanges with high school students, we find:there are many different study habits between most excellent students and poor ones, especially the independent leaning ability. Then how much independent learning impact on student learning in mathematics?Independent learning is an effective modern learning style corresponding to traditional ones. Its main part is the student, and it achieves the learning objectives by students’ independent analysis, exploring, practice, questioning, creativity and other methods, etc. There is an old saying that teaching a man how to fish rather than give him a fish.so, it is the ultimate goal of modern education to cultivate lifelong learners with independent learning ability. To our knowledge, Mathematics is a very important discipline of all disciplines and practical in many aspects. It needs to have flexible thinking ability, rigorous reasoning, careful computing power to master mathematics very well, and all these requires learners have higher independent learning ability. Only in this way, we can find problems in learning, solve problems by ourselves and realize the essence of mathematics. In this paper, literature research, observation, surveys and other research methods are included. First, high school students learning and independent learning theory in mathematics all these are reviewed. With reference to existing research results, we respectively give concept of excellent students and poor ones in mathematics learning. Then, Using observation method and questionnaire survey method, we conduct researches in differences between mathematics high school students with learning difficulties and students gifted with independent learning ability. Besides, we analyze this phenomenon from internal and external factors. Last, according to the known theories and practical experience in teaching actives, we put forward some strategies about improving the independent learning ability of senior high school students, then carry on analyzing and reflecting about these aspects.Theoretical study of independent learning, as can be traced back to the early1950s, has been to achieve significant results. The author through to the high school mathematics autonomous learning ability of investigation found that the overall level of the high school mathematics autonomous learning ability is not ideal, and learn healthy birth and there is biggish difference level of poor student’s independent learning ability, learning eugenics is generally higher than that of poor student autonomous learning ability. In order to solve this problem, the author from the five dimensions of autonomous learning, learning motivation, time management, learning strategy, learning, monitoring and self-evaluation), the cause of the high school students’ autonomous learning ability is low, respectively, and puts forward relevant countermeasures of solving this problem.
