Mathematics becomes the embodiment of efficiency for its conciseness, education of mathematics has been exploring on the theme of high efficiency. And yet there is a serious phenomenon of inefficiency in math teaching, math homework is a miserable weapon making teachers and students suffer unspeakably, which deviates from the starting point of mathematics teaching. Chinese teachers and students are overwhelmed by homework, but the effect is not optimistic, so they could become a fig leaf. Therefore, it is necessary for students and teachers to lose some futile or even harmful burden to improve the effectiveness of homework.Based on the review of literature at home and abroad, combined with interviews of14senior school teachers and questionnaires surveys of225among students, it shows inefficiency of math work can be summarized as too much, repeated, clutter, much old title, emphasizing on imitation instead of reflection, low independency, initiative and enthusiasm, stressing on result instead of approach and emotional, misunderstanding of job functions and poor study habits and attitudes of students. The amount and difficulty of task, the teacher’s actual processing conditions and job forms are factors for the effectiveness of homework.Based on the analysis of job status and its effectiveness factors, teachers should have rational value for function of math homework in practice. Teachers should not treat process of design as procedural tasks, instead they should pursuit diverse job type.Work should be fun, timely, targeted, comprehensive and challenging. The difficulty should be in high adaptation with students, also it can enhance cooperation inquiry ability. Schools can design school-based homework for their own. To improve the actual effect of homework correcting, teachers can use correction symbols flexibly, give evaluations from different perspectives and apply comments to improve the relationship between teachers and students. Making correcting ways diverse to arouse students’initiative. At the same time, teachers should also record the assignment in time and pay attention to communication with students. To improve the status of teachers taking everything on their own, they may change requirements and follow certain evaluation principle and make evaluation form diverse.Finally, teachers should give much guidance for students to form the correct concept of homework, such as helping students build up the consciousness of time and efficiency and develop their own learning goals and plans. Also they should focus on cultivation of students’good habits in the process of operation.
