The Relationship Between Internetaddiction And Parental Rearing Patterns

In modern information society, the internet is playing an increasingly important role in people’s daily life, while, on the other hand, the internet addiction caused by excessive use and dependence on the internet has become a severe social problem, especially in adolescents; due to their characteristics, such as immature psychological developent and poor self-control, junior high school students is a high risk population of Internet addiction occurs. Parental rearing patterns as the main influence factors of family, which have an important influence on individual development and adaptation to society. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between parental rearing patterns and internet addiction, providing theoretical basis and empirical support for the prevention and intervention of internet addiction in junior high school students.This study takes909junior middle school students from Zhengzhou Zheng Dong New District as the objects using questionnaires, the results are as follows:1. There existed an significant difference of the demographic variables in junior high school students with Internet addiction. More than eighty percent of the junior middle school students belong to the normal Internet users, Internet addiction detection rate of5.61%. Boys degree of Internet addiction in general higher than girls,but the detection rate is lower than girls.14years old age group, the junior middle school second grade students are more prone to Internet addiction behavior.2. There existed an significant difference of the demographic variables in junior high school students students’parental rearing patterns. Parents’emotional understanding warm dimension scored the highest, while penalty dimension scored the lowest. The boys’scores on interference protection, severe punishment and rejection and negative factor were significantly higher than girls.12and13year-old junior middle school students getted more parents’ prefer,14-year-old junior middle school students getted the most understand parents’emotional warmth, and they also getted the most excessive interference,excessive protection. Students at the beginning getted more preference of their parents, the student of grade2getted significantly higher in parents’emotional warmth and understanding, interference protection, and refussing to deny.3. There existed an significant correlation between junior middle school students’ scores on internet addiction and parental rearing patterns.There existed significant positive correlations between the internet addiction degree and father’s rearing, mothers’ parenting style understanding, over interference and over protection; while there existed significant negative correlations between the internet addiction degree and emotional warmth and severe punishment. 4. The parental rearing patterns among junior middle school students of different internet addiction degrees are significantly different. High addiction group scored significantly higher in punishment, excessive interference and overprotection dimensions, while scored scored significantly lower in parental preference.5. The junior middle school students’ gender, grade, fathers’ refusion, over protection and mothers’ excessive interference and overprotection could significantly predicate internet addiction.This study suggested that parents should raise their level of education and management, junior middle school students should have a correct understanding on internet, and school and society should do a good job of student management and internet management.
