Research On The Spiritual Care For Elderly In The Pension Institutions With Social Work Intervention

Social population aging in China has become increasingly serious since the new century, which has caused series of aging problems. People are now gradually realizing that not only economic care should be considered to support, but also spiritual care should be taken into consideration to improve the quality of old people’s life fundamentally can solve the aging problems in our country more effectively.In recent years, the folk institutions of age service are actively exploring mental health care towards the elderly to improve their spiritual and cultural life as well. But due to various reasons, some of the elderly in the spiritual care services can not meet the needs of the elderly, still need to continue to enhance the service. This paper takes the explorations about the elderly spiritual care in pension institutions in Gulou District, Nanjing as the research object, obtains the empirical data mainly by literature material collection and interview methods, summarizes the actively exploration and practice in pension institutions in Gulou District, Nanjing, analyses certain difficulties and deficiencies during the processes of their developing spiritual care activities, and gives relevant suggestions about how to intervene from the perspective of social work.The elderly people’s demands in spiritual care aspects are relatively strong. Advantages are more obvious in forms of group activities, which means that this way is simple to organize, widely covered, and easily to produce significantly effects. Through group activities, old man in institutions can interact to each other effectively, strengthen their interpersonal communication, and enhance their self-efficacy. In a word, the interaction model and development approach in group social work are the most suitable way for the elderly, which can meet the spiritual demands of the elderly in institutions, help them to develop their potentials, and improve their life quality better.This paper thinks, social workers to carry out social work in institutions, only through a comprehensive consideration, demand-oriented, develop suitable service for the elderly, in order to fundamentally ease the current situation of old people’s spiritual care enough. However, the elderly own characteristic as well as the spiritual needs of the diversity and particularity all affect social work, therefore, to do the elderly spiritual care service, should start from the following three aspects, one is using appropriate methods, the establishment of professional trust harmonious, help the elderly adjust the mental state; two is the full integration of social resources, to provide comprehensive and spiritual care service; the three is to carry out practical activities to the system, concrete analysis of concrete conditions, to provide suitable service for the elderly.
